Egyptian Thonet | 2010

Group Project with Yasmine Elwani
Inspiration
Idea was to stretch the original thonet chairs, as most egyptians do when it comes to any picture scaling!

Proposals
Prototype 1:  In this chair, total symmetrical stretching was applied.
Prototype 2:  Here, the Egyptian coffee shop users' needs were considered, where conversation was made easier. The chair was stretched asymmetrically, more to one side to encourage the users to rest their arms while twisted to one side to speak easily with the person next to them.
Prototype 3: The chair was meant to express the Egyptian men, as strong and muscular when looked at. In this chair the back unit was asjusted in its thickness to emphasis the manly muscular shoulders, lso stretched to the side, contradicting with the twisted legs, which seem not to carefully carry the strong body, but in fact they do.
Shadowing Concept
Prototype 1: Shadow of old thonet overlooking the new one
Prototype 2: Twisted angle to subconciously explain direction of using the chair seat
Prototype 3: Symmetric Bold expression
